Proper Palm Tree Care

In a nutshell, palm trees look downright cool. However, a palm tree will not look that good if it starts to "pass away" from neglect. If one wants to keep and maintain a palm tree in front of their house or business, there needs to be a few baseline care taking methods that must be initiated.

First, you must live in an area that is agreeable to palm trees. While these sounds silly, people can buy anything over the Internet and surely there is some clown in the south pole right now wondering why his palm tree is dying. If you live in a place like Hawaii, Florida, or California, you can move on to the next paragraph about palm tree care right now. If you live in a place like Iceland, Alaska, or Siberia, you may want to look at something that doesn't require quite as much sunlight.

If you do have an agreeable climate for a palm tree, the first thing you need to understand about palm tree care is that the soil the tree is planted in remains the most important item to maintaining proper care. The most common problem is soil that is overly comprised of sand. Avoid this type of soil or add store bought soil to compensate for the sand. Additionally, you should purchase nutrient packets for the soil. For palm trees, you will usually want to add magnesium and potassium.

Water is also extremely important or, more precisely, the palm tree needs to be watered regularly. While most consider this basic issue of palm tree care hard to overlook, there are those who do not realize that following a regular, weekly schedule is important and not to be inconsistent.

Provide your palm tree with fertilizer or plant food "supplements" so it can maintain its good "health." Sometimes one has to go the extra mile in order to ensure proper palm tree care. That's fine, as they are such gorgeous trees, the extra effort is worth it.
